BEATRICE'S HEART WRITEUP!!1
I AM 100% ON THE BALL.
THE THEATRE:
- the theatre is both a canon setting from a recent significant memory, and representative of the fact that she is generally "playing a part" when interacting with people at first. If people had done more things in the theatre it would have affected her outward presentation.
- the shackles were a canon thing too :'Da along with the... body bits. the body parts are more of a general aura of death and misfortune, which nobody touched so. She will still present that way even when she doesn't feel it as much!!
- the opening show was a way to outline Beatrice's heart and issues in a not necessarily spoilery way :|a dropping clues as to what is up with her, etc.
- the butterfly brooches were both a mechanism for NPC assistance (in case people fell into traps) and a charm meant to be left places or given to NPCs. They actually have no innate magical properties! If anyone used MAGICAL ANALYSIS or something they would see they are just trinkets. Onee-sama Beatrice responded to the summons because her purpose is to keep up the illusion of magic, but she actually had no obligation to grant wishes to anybody :B none of the other NPCs besides her and Zepar/Furfur would recognize the brooch, even if they normally should.
- the lights directed everyone specifically to the Aather area once the opening show was over since her Aather self is the one she wants/wanted to present as here. (This may have changed slightly after this heartgame??)
- in the lobby, the presences were Bernkastel, Lambdadelta, Erika, etc. People both canon and non-canon who consider Beatrice as their entertainment. Bernkastel was actually invisibly omnipresent throughout the canon sections of the heart, but she doesn't have much influence on the Aatherpart so she got annoyed that everyone went there :'Da Her presence (and the presence of the other witches) sort of "haunts" Beatrice which is why they were doing the ghost thing.
- the popcorn was safe it just tasted like schadenfreude and probably would have made Beatrice more wary of you.

* making fun of Bernkastel & co. and not taking them seriously decreased her anxiety about everyone being out to get her a little

BACKSTAGE:
- this was the most intimate area! representing the "actor" and not a character, the stripping down of all facades. the area in general is sort of the true heart's foil, full of self-loathing and identity crisis instead of dere and acceptance.
- the odds and ends are MOSTLY just a lot of objects featured in her memories. one or two things were added so you could use them places but I wanted to mix it in with a bunch of junk because I guess I am Hard Mode.
- the objects in the "props" closet are SPECIFICALLY objects relating to the illusion of magic. for example, although the keys were real keys--there was a master key on the keyrings that could unlock most doors--those keys were there to represent the trick Yasu pulled on Berune. candy and teacups for the trick with Maria, the Stakes for obvious reasons, etc.
- in the box there were figurines for everyone she knew! even her selves, if you had looked. They represent not necessarily her feelings for them, but her perception of them as things she can use/manipulate/play with. These all seem like bad verbs but a lot of it is benign interest. Anyway it would have taken way too much work to set out the figurines in ways that she ALREADY is interested in these people, so I just stuck them all there so that people could put them places or pose them as they like and that would influence her interest in them.
- the dressing room! obviously had all of the clothes that she has worn in any remembered iteration. If the first backstage area represents how she interacts with other people, the dressing room represents how she deals with herself, and her inner conflicts.
- looking in the mirror or putting on clothes would trigger things here.
- the door in the dressing room led to a Place where Things were, and it will be slightly different next time for Reasons.
- the restrooms are her issues with sex/gender unsurprisingly. You actually could have read the newspaper the paint was sitting on and it would have mentioned an accident :'Da You can ask about other details if you want but... idk if that is necessary or not...
- I didn't want anyone to ACTUALLY FOR REALS see Beatrice naked in her sad little furniture bathroom because it's never explicitly addressed like that. So to reinforce her identity as more of an object than a person she was full-on doll body.
- FTR, I'm not sure if anyone can tell the difference in speech patterns, but the Beatrice here used "watashi" and didn't use Beato's more formal speech :x
- Suzaku had more... adventures... with this NPC than I really expected anyone to do so A Lot Of Stuff Happened.
- Each of the four directions leading out from the theatre had an opportunity for the true heart test btw. Doll-Beato was the only NPC location-locked backstage so she was given the honors.

* Suzaku took the keyrings and also the chapel key from the envelope, so Beato will... not completely forget those tricks but have them pushed from the forefront of her mind so she would have to think really hard to remember them.
* Lucifer took Suzaku's figurine with him to the metaworld and then broke it, which will make Beatrice more... forgetful of Suzaku and prone to not noticing him, but also make her mentally associate him with the heaven or hell crew rather than someone she met in Aather.
* her body issues were all seen!!1 which makes them less desperate of a secret.
* Beatrice's suicidal tendencies and body issues have assumed the largely free title of Clair and begun to establish a personality fixating on Suzaku. ... On one hand this greatly erases the sheer gravity of those issues! There is no longer an entire aspect full of nothing but self-hatred. But it sure makes her sense of self more hilarious because the current "actor" specifically agreed to LIVE A NEW ROLE ("Think of yourself as something better."). So if she hates herself too much it will violate her ruleset. now the true heart is currently the only pure representation of herself and thank god you can't mess with that shit cause we all know it would already be ruined otherwise.
* He also dragged her out into the theatre instead of letting her hide, so Beatrice will be somewhat more open about her issues, but also more comfortable with them since she was allowed to dress up the way she liked first. So she will think of them as a bit less of an issue to bring up in the first place.
ROKKENJIMA:
- no one went here. I WONDER WHAT SORT OF PLACES WERE HERE.
- actually there were TWO different places to get the true heart test this way. you could have potentially all started in this area and still missed entire subparts of it... an adventure for the sequel

METAWORLD:
- unsurprisingly, this place represents her canon life as it exists in the metaworld.
- Meta-Beatrice is generally Aather-Beatrice's main contender for supremacy, but after a few too many memories of being dead or suicidal or unhappy anyway, Aather-Beatrice's solution was to kill her off quietly and focus on her own life. Thus this section was set to "DEAD" but it was a respectful death and Battler was just put to sleep outside of immediate attention.
- the lever was there though because life/death doesn't exist as a final thing for her in any way \:D/ so the lever can just be flipped back and forth endlessly. If someone had flipped it back to "DEAD" after flipping it to "ALIVE," a Thing would have happened.

- if the original "DEAD" setting is the EP5 status quo, "ALIVE" set it to the EP6 status quo. So the Battler and Beatrice there turned into GM Battler and chick Beatrice.
- The building was there to house the metaworld NPCs haha. And that room is also the room where her game takes place! So it was Bernkastel/Lambdadelta/Ronove/Virgilia/Erika/Dlanor in here.
- FEATHERINE is Featherine. PERHAPS SHE IS EVEN THE REAL FEATHERINE WHO HAS COME TO VISIT. Blah blah canon stuff that would take a while to explain but the books really are books of Beatrice's story in-universe. Since it's Beatrice's heart only the parts she remembers are filled in. ...mostly it was just a collection of her memories yes.
- There were other books beyond those ones but they were mostly unimportant besides maybe easter eggs.
- Featherine was actually the one who officiated the true heart test for the metaworld, but only if people seemed like they actually cared about that.

* Lucifer woke Battler up which means Beatrice is thinking of him more actively again.
* ...though he dumped her tea so she might lose a little of her tea-dere
* He got Battler to pull the revival switch so the life goals of that Beatrice are now active goals of Beatrice in Aather again.
* Lucifer's conversations with Ronove/Erika/Featherine didn't really tilt him towards being for/against her :|a "what would crush her?" and "I have no reason to disbelieve in witches" kind of cancel each other out
* But Featherine drafted him as a Reader, so Beatrice will be more willing to share information about her memories with Lucifer.
KINGDOM OF AATHER:
- You don't need me to tell you this, but this place exists as a delusional idealization more than her perception of what Aather actually is. Which is not different from, say, how Rokkenjima would have been if people had gone there. So it's not like ONLY AATHER GETS THIS TREATMENT. It's kinda how she rolls.
- Obviously Peridot is the MOST IMPORTANT PART!! so it is at the center and has the most space. But she does occasionally spare thoughts for other teams so that's why they were all represented to some capacity.
- THESE ARE ALL OF THE DREAMSELFIES FOR ALL OF THE TEAMS. These are also heavily filtered through Beatrice's lens! But they represent to a certain degree what she thinks of when she thinks of each team, constrained by the limits of "SHE ONLY KNOWS ONE PERSON AND DOESN'T HAVE MUCH OF AN OPINION SO MAYBE I'LL JUST PUT RANDOM STUFF" or "Dreamselfy has a limited amount of stuff in this color for some reason."

You can ask questions like "who the fuck does Beato know on XYZ team to make their team look like that" if. you want. but sometimes the answer really is just "IDK I found this thing on dreamselfy that was in their team color and it was super cute??"
- Actually btw! All of the teams were meant to be androgynous, but it obvs matters less for some than others. Teams like Kunzite and Ruby are deliberately presenting as female, but Peridot for example is quite firmly on the boundary of the gender binary.
- Most of the cabins were normal cabins with nothing strange about them. Kunzite was one of the exceptions :) because Beatrice's resentment of Kunzite is/was?? enough to deserve a physical representation.
- Acedia was the maid because this is Beatrice's delusional fantasy world. I'm not sure there is anything else I have to say about that. (Actually, the other members of Ruby were servants too but I didn't get around to writing the castle out in detail so I'm not sure where they were specifically. MAYBE THEY WERE NOT EVEN WORKING THAT DAY. Acedia works every day. It's in his contract.)
- Lelouch and Beatrice are the king and queen because this is Beatrice's delusional fantasy world--no she really does consider the both of them as the "leaders" of Peridot. In her eyes both of them are counterweights to each other and are more effective working as foils. I started planning this even before they pseudo-hooked-up and it was the same situation :V but... yes they are also married...
- THE OTHER MEMBERS OF PERIDOT WERE IN OTHER PLACES IN THE CASTLE depending on how she views their role etc.
- Advisor Peridot is less of a horrible yandere and more of a thoughtful, rational and mediating presence. The book had the true heart test, but it also had a novelization of Beatrice's time in Aather, as a complement to Featherine's library, which only has the canon memories.
- Although Lelouch is there as a co-leader all executive decisions are obviously made by Beatrice in her own heart, which is why heart-Lelouch is surprised to hear about things like BEATRICE HAS BEEN ABUSING KUNZITE!!1 It actually was pretty smart to confront her directly in front of Lelouch because he tempers her a lot :x So she will make a token effort to do as Sharon negotiated.

* Kunzite was brought out of her house and directly into Peridot castle to have an audience with the King and Queen \:'D/ so just her presence there will. MAKE BEATO ASSOCIATE KUNZITE MORE CLOSELY WITH PERIDOT and treat them more like an extension of her own team.
* Beatrice probably does wish there were multiple Lelouches now...
* +dere and willingness to hug Ven! since he initiated that
* Beatrice agreed to be friends with Kunzite and to be more sociable with the other teams so... she will... do that... (unsure)

- the true heart also used "watashi" :B and there were absolutely no illusions in the way she presented herself here.
- the test to the true heart ("Who am I?") was a... very very finicky question. There was not a "right answer" to the question as far as... there actually being a right answer?? Since there isn't. However!
- Under the principle of "Without love, it cannot be seen" the one surefire way to access the true heart is to identify her as someone you love!
- HOWEVER, it is possible to access the true heart otherwise, but 1) your answer has to be completely true, and 2) your answer cannot point her towards any one personality. THIS WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY FINICKY FOR ME OOCLY TO SORT OUT TOO why did I make such a freeform question.
- 3/4ths of people who answered the question were redirected to Peridot :B But you would have been transported wherever was more appropriate for your answer. Like if you said "You're a great witch who has lived for a thousand years!" you would have gone there and so on. she has plenty of personalities to field most traits so only if you were VERY VERY DELICATE would you be transported to the true heart...

In canon "Clair" is a vessel and representative for her own story. The thing about Beatrice is she doesn't have a "real name" so much, so canon kind of needed to come up with a new title for her as a whole rather than as one personality or another. So in trying to choose a name for what she considers her core self, after Suzaku asked, she picked Clair :|b She only has one memory of being Clair and it's a memory where she doesn't speak or have any influence so she doesn't care much if she overwrites an existing personality...
And she's only doing all this because she finally went "What if he really does love me and me refusing to acknowledge that will just cause him unending misery" soooo obviously this weird development only exists as far as Suzaku will encourage it. :'Da The minute that Suzaku finds peace/seems satisfied, Clair plans to kill herself off and return to the status quo.
