Heart 2 Writeup
OH I ACTUALLY... DID THIS... I did it at work without referencing things though so perhaps it is. inaccurate. I'm not sure anymore.
GENERAL CONCEPT
The general idea is that Beatrice was feeling especially shattered and like she couldn't even unite herself into a functional multifaceted person like she used to be able to do. BUT LIKE. One of Beatrice's major flaws is that she's extremely indecisive. If she's presented with multiple valid choices she can't really... choose... one. SO I thought that intervention might help push her somewhere and so I ran a heart game.
The different pieces of herself were all very desperate for representation and they would act with force in order to get the boost seeds!! ...But most people just went ahead and handed them over so nothing really happened. The exception to the violent desperation, hilariously, was "Clair". Who ended up getting the most.
The original concept for the heart game, before boosts were introduced, was that you could win either by viewing lots of Beatrice's memories OR by participating in the struggle for domination. I guess the boosts kind of nullified the necessity for violence which I only realize later. Oops!!
THE THEATRE/OPENING ACT:
This is pretty self-explanatory. It's not too terribly different from last time. The show presented as her current central concept the idea of conflicting facets of self and her hesitation over polygamy vs. monogamy etc... I think I ended up giving people less direction than I could have, BUT whatever, people went and did things anyway!!
There was not mmmuch in the main theatre area, but there was an easter egg hidden in the orchestra pit. (I mention this mostly because Sakuya found it in the heart test run. because Sakuya.)
LOBBY:
This was barely touched on, but it's sort of an amplified version of the lobby from her first heart game, where she has a consciousness of people watching her as a spectacle and taking her pain as entertainment. Mostly in canon, but there have been people in Aather like that too :|a
BACKSTAGE:
This is obviously the stuff that she hides from the world. :'D The truth of her magic, the depth of her emotion, her self-hatred and the complex she has about her body. This was pretty thoroughly explored this time around, so!
Props:
This is stuff related to her magic or puzzles in canon. Some of them are completely useless within the heart, while obviously some of them are things like guns that you could use! (One of them would still be broken though. SURPRISE!!1)
Misc. Crap on the Ground:
tbqh this is mostly to make the doorstop less blatantly obvious, but it's a bunch of crap that refers to canon. Honestly I was lazy and never updated this or the prop closet with stuff from new memories since my last heart game. BUT IT WAS ENOUGH RANDOM CRAP ALREADY I THINK!!
Scripts:
Besides the ones read, I had one more queued up, though if people just kept reading them I probably could have found more. The scripts were chosen to be demonstrative and increasingly show her hand the more you read.
Dressing Room:
If you know why Beatrice might have a dressing room then this setup is fairly straightforward. The mirror was a trap that some people fell into! And Raven determined the way around that, which is to dress up. There were some relevant memories attached to things. I think that's really it for the main dressing room area.
Flower Chamber:
SURPRISE, this represented her romantic feelings for people. Some of the planters were eerily emptied thanks to the Sea Witch :B BUT. Anyway, more than being a plain exhibition of her feelings, it also represents her tendency to feel obsessively trapped by those feelings, and the horrible things that happen when she keeps them festering inside her for a long time. Now that the door has been propped open with the doorstop, her emotions will feel less oppressive/overwhelming, and she has been more openly affectionate towards people.
Restrooms:
These represent... her hatred for her body and her crisis of gender, more or less. The men and women's rooms are about the least subtle representations that I could possibly feel comfortable including. The furniture room is pretty solely about self-loathing. "Clair"--name appropriated since she doesn't have more than a single Clair memory atm, and it's sort of similar--was the personification of Beato's despair over her secrets, but since the last heart game they have become Beatrice's general perception of the person she is when all of her artifice is stripped away. A good portion of that IS despair, but Clair has fleshed out a little beyond that. There's a significant difference between Clair and the true heart, since Clair is more what Beatrice... imagines the true heart to be... since she has low self-esteem... Anyway, I wavered/messed up with pronouns a little, but Clair is deliberately genderless due to what they represent, and since that's so intrinsic to them I don't think that can actually change :|a (However the person walking around Aather rn is rolling with being female though she doesn't have strong identifications.)
HEDGE MAZE:
"What hedge maze?" The one that nobody found, so this will be brief! The hedges in the distance of Rokkenjima, the Metaworld, and Aather were all the same place: the vast hedge maze, which is the path to the true heart in Beato's revised heart. It's probably for the best that no one went there this time though since 1) there's no one in there to give boosts to unless you actually make it through the maze, and 2) it takes so much effort to get through that no one would get there anyway. I FEEL CONFIDENT IN GIVING SO MUCH AWAY.
AATHER:
Aather has been entirely overhauled since last heart game. There are two major changes, at least on a symbolic level. There are none of the cutesy teamselfies anywhere--Beatrice has been discouraged from viewing teams as single units (though she still has a habit of calling people by their team name when she doesn't know the individual's name). And what was once a castle is now a cathedral, reflecting a change in perception of Peridot from "the greatest team that will dominate everyone else!!1" to "a philosophy to live by, and a shelter for the lonely and abused".
The only two buildings you can go in are Tiger's Eye and Peridot, since those are the only two teams that Beatrice has a strong concept of As A Team anymore. A facet of herself was in each place. Battler may have been jelly, but Beato just doesn't have a strong concept of Emerald as a whole, and her feelings for Battler are still grounded in canon so they're all in other places in the heart. ( '-')
No one went into Tiger's Eye and it's not particularly deep so it will remain a mystery.
The Cathedral:
Literally all of Peridot, past and present (at the time of the heart game), was here in one form or another. Past members were stained glass windows and there were memories of each of them floating nearby. All the current members of Peridot were acolytes, paladins, monks, bishops etc. Beatrice was wearing a pendant which was the 7-pointed Peridot star that she and some other members have tattooed. THESE ARE ALL TRIVIAL DETAILS which I thought were nice to mention. Beatrice loves Peridot u_u And she does believe in a way that she was ~reborn in Peridot~
ROKKENJIMA:
THE MAIN JUNCTION FOR ALL OF HER REAL-WORLD CANON STUFF. I'm not sure there was much here except a lot of different ways to go.
The Forest:
No one went here! But you could make it to Kuwadorian through here.
The Other Path:
No one went here either! But it went to the chapel.
Toraian:
Shannon and Kanon were here (Kanon was upstairs). There's meant to be an eerie disturbing feeling here, thanks again to the Sea Witch. I am not sure there was actually too much depth here beyond Shannon and Kanon Central.
The Mansion:
MUUUUURDER! Okay this was also poorly planned, but you were mostly just meant to go into the mansion during the serial murders which is COMPLETELY safe. The letter was the canon letter that is read to everyone at the conference, but there was an extra letter that was meant to direct people (not explicitly) towards the study, since Beatrice doesn't remember the solution to the epitaph so it's completely impossible to solve it in her heart. ROSE DID NOT READ THIS SINCE SHE CAN'T READ. When Rosa grabbed the letter from her she was able to make the connections to the study since she is obviously... canon familiar...
METAWORLD:
This is unsurprisingly the center for the meta-side of Beatrice's canon experiences. I JUST PLANNED OUT THESE PARTS SO POORLY I FEEL EMBARRASSED TRYING TO WRITE ABOUT THEM. But whatever!! Last heart game there was a lever with "dead" and "alive", but by this point Beatrice has a more nuanced perspective of her evolution as a witch, so there were 4 options instead. The default was Chiru, since that's the most recent and most relevant incarnation. A was the youngest version of Beatrice, before she was a Game Master. B was the question arc. C was Chiru. "OFF" was EP5-era Beatrice who was unresponsive/dead.
Butterfly door:
I wanted to make Featherine's library less accessible this time around, so if you viewed 10 butterfly-memories, you could enter the door to discuss things with her.
Building:
This was just housing the extended cast of characters, and it was where the main action of the game etc. was. In Building C you could find the logic error room. Building B similarly had murder sites :|a On "OFF" the building was the chapel instead, and Battler was dead and impaled on a sword here. Aces!!
Revivals:
Also if you got killed anywhere in the heart, Virgilia would revive you here, though you would be sort of a ghost. (Real-world characters such as most of those in Rokkenjima wouldn't be able to see you.)
OKAY NOW TO GO OVER WHAT THE DAMAGE IS IN TERMS OF WHAT GOT BOOSTED.
"CLAIR": 3
As stated above, I think it's possible to come to the conclusion that "Clair" is the true self of Beatrice, but they are distinct from the true heart! Clair is sort of Beatrice's PERCEPTION of what her true self is, and also simultaneously the characterization of her self-hatred and so on. They're a compilation of her Yasu issues and her furniture issues and similar stuff that she blocks from public view. ...Until now I guess. In Beatrice's FIRST heart game, this personification became more of an actual persona rather than one-dimensional insecurity. It took a while but that aspect finally stabilized into being more... accepting of itself? But it was still mostly hidden and she didn't actually hate herself much less. But now after this heartgame enough people boosted Clair that that has sort of become the dominant persona?! SO. Going off of that.
Most immediately noticeable will probably be her speaking style! Her "default" voice will probably switch from Beatrice's ostentatious style to ordinary, more casual language. The switch from warawa to watashi and so on is probably a lot more apparent in Japanese but I think it is also visible in English (a lot more contractions and less of a haughty tone). She won't have... lost the haughty Beatrice facade, but she won't really rely on it often. Just like when haughty Beatrice was her default, she rarely slipped into being a blatant emo kid.
There will also be a shift from casually insulting others in conversation to casually insulting HERSELF in conversation. After Clair got over sobbing endlessly they became more... sarcastic... instead. So Beato will probably be a lot more openly self-deprecating. I am not actually sure if she will end up reverting on this; her CR is already a little tense about how dramatically she's changed. She kind of despairs over this--since she considers Clair her true self, the number of people who seem concerned at her current state sort of reinforce that her true self isn't appealing to others... but that has more to do with where she's at now, rather than a direct result of the heartgame.
All in all it's good that Clair IS one of the most self-aware facets, since Beatrice won't have to like... retcon her entire life in Aather, just be more open about the fact that she was fronting for much of it.
The fact that Clair is currently in Peridot has a few effects! First, the concepts that Clair represents will no longer be considered "secrets" (like they are when they are backstage). So she will be more open about even things that will ruin her......... Like there are some facts that contradict Basic Assumptions People Have About Beatrice, but in her current state you could ask her about them and she would straight up say "Oh that's not true though..." It's just that people are not particularly thinking to ask her so explicitly :'D And she will also feel more comfortable with Peridot and open with them especially u///u There's a distinct possibility that this facet might change their name to Lily after the Mr. Right game, har har. However "Clair"/Lily is different from the Peridot matriarch persona, so the dominant personality she has atm feels more like an equal of Peridot, rather than a guardian/leader figure.
~LOVE~: 2
S... So that flower chamber eh. Thankfully, there is a balance in what happened here that won't make it a very negative change. Her love IN GENERAL, not attached to any specific person, got boosted two levels. If the door had stayed closed this might have been overwhelming, but the door was left open and so she will probably be more open about it as well... So basically gushy dere for the people she (romantically) loves. She will be a lot less tsun and coy and a lot more YOU'RE SO WONDERFUL (kinda chick-Beato style).
SERIAL KILLER: 2
el oh el?? I GUESS IT'S GOOD THIS ISN'T THE DOMINANT PERSONALITY? I thinkkk this is the single most sadistic persona (the meta-personality has more stuff going on than just being a spirit of terror). So this is mostly strengthening her desire to maim/murder as a means to solve problems, and her sadism. LUCKILY, the dominant persona atm doesn't perceive very much as a "problem" since it's so fatalistic, so Beatrice is not just going to start killing people left and right. She had a veeeeery brief flash of this in the game where Battler got stabbed recently, but she had already hit the limit of her powercap, so she wasn't able to completely flip out and she reverted pretty quickly.
PERIDOT: 2
This is the more motherly persona that tries to take care of her teammates and encourage them and WORK FOR THE GOOD OF PERIDOT, I HAVE NO IDENTITY BUT FOR THE GOOD OF PERIDOT. Previous to the heart game, this was the personality she took up pretty much exclusively around Peridot (excepting Lelouch and sssometimes Ratatosk, out of the current set). Obviously that's no longer the case since Clair got put in Peridot instead, but the fact that this was boosted means that these skills are still accessible, and she's been slipping back into this mode during times of high distress for Peridot.
CHIRU (ep6/8ish) BEATO: 2 (sort of)
This situation is sort of different from boosting the same thing twice, since each of the sisters had to get one seed in order to fuse and become one. The most immediate effect of this is that she overcame the mental block and resolved the logic error!! Other than that it will make her default meta-Beatrice personality the more... peaceful? domestic? version of Beatrice seen in late Chiru. (Though this will be interesting to reconcile with the serial murderer Beatrice that was also boosted.) It might not actually be a super huge difference since her personality in Aather was already similar to this in a way, except with more fake self-assurance while in canon she has developed more genuine self-assurance. So she will be confident in a somewhat less aggressive/violent way while in Beatrice-mode! (That stuff isn't entirely gone though.) Also ++Battlerdere. She doesn't actually remember any of the things that happen after Beatrice becomes more herself again in canon, but she will at least be more instinctively prone to acting like a married couple with Battler u_u
SHANNON: 1
Shannon will be more prevalent and have more courage to assert herself and pursue her missing memories!! The boost doesn't at all give her back her memories since that's beyond Beatrice's control, but she will be more likely to try and retrieve them. But ultimately she didn't get boosted as much as others so she's still not dominant sry.
